The new term has started with a real buzz of excitement at Landscove CofE Primary school with the arrival of its new outdoor learning classroom. Following a fantastic fundraising effort by the Friends of Landscove School (FOLS) where over £7,000 was raised, a brand new wooden gazebo was quickly erected in time for the start of term that will provide pupils with a covered area to further develop their learning beyond the classroom. Jill Ryder, Head of School, said “Josie Wright, a newly appointed Forest School leader arrived to lead and develop our outdoor learning and we now have a brand new outdoor classroom where she can work with groups of pupils. All the staff and children are thrilled. This was all down to the hard work and determination of the Friends of Landscove School and in particular, Merry Whitaker, Kate Burch and Hannah Parker who really took our initial idea and then set to work and planned, negotiated and realized the school’s ambition to have an outdoor learning space to enrich our curriculum. We can’t wait to get started on building fires, shelters and learning outdoors” The forest school movement is an inspirational process that offers all learners regular opportunities to achieve and develop confidence and self-esteem through hands on learning experiences in a natural environment.
